WTC 2025-27 Points Table: Updated World Test Championship Standings After England Docked 12 Points For Slow Over-Rate At Oval

England were dealt a double blow as they were docked 12 WTC points after defeat to New Zealand in The Oval Test. Here’s how the updated points table looks like.

England were fined 50 per cent of their match fees on top of the 12-point penalty after they were found to be 12 overs short of their minimum overs target in the defeat to New Zealand at The Oval. The World Test Championship playing conditions state that every team is penalised one point for every over they fall short of, essentially wiping out the 12 points England earned with the win at Lord’s.

Further, as per the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, all the players of the team are fined five per cent of their match fees per over, which is capped at a maximum of 50 per cent. With England falling 12 overs short, all their players were docked half of their match fees from the game.

This is the second time England have been docked points for a slow over-rate in the ongoing WTC cycle. They were penalised two points for the same reason following the Lord’s win over India in 2025.

New Zealand won the Test by 253 runs, their biggest win in the format in England in terms of runs, riding on all-round performances. Matt Henry’s record figures of 11-109 were the highlight as he ran through the home batting lineup on the last day of the Test. Glenn Phillips scored his maiden Test ton, while Henry Nicholls also scored a hundred after coming in for the retired Kane Williamson.
