DSP-Equivalent Recognition Likely for Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep

The Bihar government has recommended direct DSP-equivalent appointments under the Sports Quota for India cricketers Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep. The proposal has reportedly received approval and has now been sent to the Home Department for further processing.

The move is being seen as a major recognition of the achievements of two players who were born in Bihar but built their domestic cricket careers with Bengal cricket team. Both have gone on to represent India at the highest level and have become role models for young cricketers from the state.

Mukesh’s journey to international cricket is one of persistence and hard work. Coming from a financially challenging background, the fast bowler worked his way through the domestic ranks before earning his India debut. He has since represented the national team in Tests, ODIs and T20Is, establishing himself as a reliable pace option across formats.

Akash Deep’s story is equally inspiring. Despite facing opposition from his family when he chose cricket as a career, he continued to pursue his dream and eventually reached the Indian team. The pacer has played 10 Tests for India and has picked up 28 wickets, making a strong impression with his pace and consistency.

Both bowlers were among Bengal’s standout performers during the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy season, a campaign that helped raise their profiles in Indian cricket. Their performances for Bengal opened the door to higher honours and eventually national selection.

Recognition for Cricketing Excellence

The proposed DSP-level appointments underline Bihar’s effort to honour athletes who have brought recognition to the state through their achievements. While Mukesh and Akash represented Bengal in domestic cricket, their roots remain firmly connected to Bihar, and the state government has chosen to acknowledge their contribution to Indian cricket.
